Buying a Cooktek MCD3000 Induction Unit

(For general information about buying equipment through this site, please read this page; for general information about induction itself and its pros and cons, browse this entire site, perhaps starting with our page on how induction works.)

About the MCD3000 Induction Unit

General Description

This unit is a part of Cooktek's "Heritage" line, a powerful yet reasonably priced answer for all the needs of professional commercial cooking operations, as further described below. This particular unit is a build-in ("drop-in") type from the single-element series (they also have corresponding countertop units, plus dual-element units both build-in and countertop, with both front-to-back and side-to-side configurations).

Features

This is literally an "industrial-strength" unit, designed for commercial kitchens. (So think how well it would do in even the most demanding residential application.) Naturally, it has automatic pan detection (elements will not power unless there is a suitable cooking vessel in place on them); but beyond the basics, the unit's distinctive Cooktek features include:

temperature-set button

TEMPERATURE CONTROL
With Cooktek, you can not only control unit power (as you can with all induction equipment--it's the equivalent of turning the flame up or down), you can also set the unit to cook at a particular temperature. If your recipe calls for a specific temperature, with Cooktek that's no problem. With the push of just one button, you can turn the knob from left to right to set a specific holding temperature anywhere between 85° and 450°. With fully 27 different temperature settings to choose from, even the most delicate dishes become simple to cook.

digital temperature readout

LED DISPLAY
All Cooktek induction cooktops have a conveniently located LED display--on their freestanding cooktops, it's on the front panel, while on their build-in cooktops, it's right under the glass of the smoothtop surface, for easy viewing.

unit control knob

USER-FRIENDLY CONTROL KNOB
Just on sheer looks, many people like a "neat" push-button panel: but, invariably, when working cooks compare cooking and controlling heat with a knob against pushing buttons, they overwhelmingly prefer the knob. And form follows function, which is why Cooktek uses rotary knobs for control. Cooktek's controls feature 20 power-cook settings and 27 precise temperature settings.

error-code readout

AUTO-MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTICS
Inside each Cooktek induction cooktop is a built-in SmarTemp microprocessor that monitors key internal components 120 times a second. It protects against power surges, and checks for problems associated with overheating, blocked airflow, or almost anything else you can imagine. If a problem is detected, the unit immediately shuts itself off--so no damage can occur--and shows an event-specific error code in the unit's LED display, so you can easily diagnose and remediate most problems immediately.

glass top

HEAVY-DUTY CERAMIC GLASS SMOOTHTOP
Cooktek's glass smoothtops can withstand temperatures up to 1000°F. Their high physical shock values allow these cooktops to withstand everyday use in even the busiest of commercial kitchens.

technician examing controller

COMMERCIAL-KITCHEN-PROOF ELECTRONICS
All Cooktek electronic components are specified with the commercial kitchen environment in mind. They are intended to withstand grease, flour, other food particles, and extremely high ambient temperatures.

surface edging

BUILT-IN STAINLESS-STEEL EDGE
The ceramic glass on Cooktek cooktops is designed to withstand anything a commercial kitchen can offer. And, although it has extremely high shock values, they've built in yet another safeguard: every Cooktek cooktop has a reinforced stainless-steel edge that serves as extra protection around the edge of the glass to avoid splitting, cracking, or other such safety issues.

cooktek logo

COOKTEK WARRANTEE
The CookTek brand on the faceplate ensures you quality product and customer service, backed up by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Moreover, as they say on TV, "But wait! There's more!" Cooktek units have a "pan maximizer" feature that ensures detects pot or pan size and assures optimum heating of every cooking vessel placed on them. They also each have an integral fan, to keep their internal electronics cool.

About Actual Buying

To better understand the details of purchase and delivery, please read this page of information.

Placing Your Order

To order the unit, click on the button below; that will take you to the unit's "Buy" page on Select Appliance, the online retailer handling the purchase. When you arrive at that page, simply click on the ADD TO CART button there, which will look like this: dummy sample Select add-to-cart button (this sample is just that, a non-functional sample of what you will find after you click the button below). Clicking that ADD TO CART will place the unit in your Shopping Cart at Select Appliance.

Remember: You have not actually purchased the unit till you proceed from the Cart to Checkout at the Select Appliance site!

The item-buy page at Select Appliance will open in a new browser window. If you want to shop here for more products before checking out, you can just close that browser window, which will leave this page visible again. Items placed in your Cart should remain there for quite a while (days, not hours) till you're ready to complete your purchases.

Induction Cooking Equipment Available Through This Site

The following induction-cooking equipment (here listed alphabetically by maker) is available for purchase direct through this site. We ask that if you have not already read our explanation of why we hope that you will choose to make your purchases here you please take a look at it now.

Note! We are always expanding our offering of equipment at retail: in particular, the list of products we offer in the U.K. will be expanding greatly in the future. Right now, we believe we have virtually all residential equipment available at retail in North America at the best internet prices to be found, and we also have a good selection of the available commercial-grade equipment (which selection will be growing). If you're looking for a particular product and it isn't on our lists, please email us with an inquiry.

Listed below, alphabetically by maker, is what we already offer. As a general guide, units described as "hob" are available in the U.K., while those described as "cooktop" (or, for countertops, "unit") have North American availability.

Please further note that "North American" always includes the U.S., but may or may not include Canada, depending on the supplier we use (in particular, Sears Canada does not have an affiliate program). But units only available for delivery in the U.S. can still easily be shipped to Canada through any of several third-party services dedicated to facilitating just such trans-border shipping. We frankly don't know enough about such services--other than that they exist--to recommend any, but information is available on line.
