Buying Cooktops
From Select Appliance
Through This Site

Practical Information on Purchasing.

Who Is Actually Delivering the Unit?

Select Appliance logo

This site is affiliated with selectappliance.com, an online retailer of restaurant supplies; it is Select Appliance that actually ships the unit to you. Select seems to be a satisfactory operation (else we here wouldn't use them).

Curiously, of our usual line-up of references, several--Shopping.com, BiZrate, and Yahoo Shopping--had no rating information, though this is a large operation, so we looked for further sources before deciding that Select is a reputable, well-considered operation. Most of what we saw was anecdotal--sandwiched into various product reviews--so we don't link it below, but everything we did see was quite positive and nothing was at all negative, so we're satisfied. The only regular "rating" source with anything at all was epinions: 5 stars, maximum possible - 3 reviews. Further, our personal contacts with Select have further confirmed us in our opinions.

(Why go through this chain? Please, if you have not already read our case for why, do so now.)

The Mechanical Details

About Shipping

Within the continental United States, your order qualifies for free shipping, with certain quite minor reservations, detailed below.

For Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, or the US Virgin Islands, Select can provide shipping via their national carrier, but there will be additional costs. If you are in one of those locales, be sure to note your shipping location on Select's order form, along with complete contact information. A Select customer-service agent will make direct contact with you to discuss those additional costs and to set up the actual shipment for you.

For customers outside those areas (the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and the US Virgin Islands), Select can ship your order to any specified port terminal within the continental United States for free, or they can provide you with a total shipping cost quotation for any destination in the world. Please make contact with them with your exact shipping address for more information.

Continental U.S. Shipping Notes:

  • The shippers cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes.

  • For small products, Select uses UPS Ground service as the carrier. This service is usually very reliable but could take from a few days to a week or two to arrive, depending on your location. An automatic charge of $25.00 will be imposed for any undamaged shipment that is refused. Faster service, such as overnight or two-day shipping, is available on some items by request and at additional charge.

  • For heavier items (which should be no induction equipment save perhaps a range), Select ships via a common-carrier truck-service network. Again, these companies are very reliable and usually get anywhere in the country within one week of getting the product loaded. Delivery includes, where required, lift-gate delivery service that will allow the driver to lower the products slowly and safely to the ground. See "At Delivery Time" (below) for details.

  • If you want to delay shipping till a certain day, or if you require the carrier to call before delivery, or if you have any other special shipping requests, please note them in the comments section of your order form at Checkout time.

  • Select does their best to keep their product database current and up-to-date. Occasionally, however, manufacturers may delay or even discontinue a product without notification. If you would like to confirm the availability of a product before you place your order, feel free to contact Select. Neither they nor we are responsible for delays caused by manufacturers or distributors.

  • Important: Please see the information below on what to do when you receive your package.

If you have any questions about Select Appliance's shipping policy, or to inquire with them about the status of an order, please feel free to call them, toll-free, at (888) 235-0431.

At Delivery Time

Care is taken when packing your order and all equipment is inspected before shipping, but on occasion a shipment may be lost or damaged in transit. At the time your shipment is received, it is your responsibility to follow these guidelines.

Before you sign the delivery receipt (or bill of lading), and before the driver departs:

  • Verify the number of cartons.

  • Open, unpack, and thoroughly inspect your shipment for any damage.

  • If damages or shortages are discovered, make a notation on all copies of the freight bill describing the damage or shortage in detail.

  • It is your right to refuse any shipment that shows signs of damage or shortage at delivery time.

  • Your signature on the delivery receipt is an acknowledgement that the shipment was received in good condition and without damage or shortage; don't give that signature if you are not sure of those things.

  • If the driver insists on leaving before you are able to examine all portions of the shipment, note on the delivery receipt (near your signature) that the driver would not allow for inspection.

  • If you have questions during the delivery process, immediately call Select Appliance Customer Service at 1 (888) 235-0431; they're there during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Mondays through Fridays).

If you discover concealed damage:

  • Save all shipping cartons and packing materials.
  • Immediately request an inspection by the carrier and file a freight claim.

If you don't save all packing materials, your opportunity to recover damages will likely be restricted. Failure to follow any of the above-mentioned guidelines will also restrict your ability to return merchandise or file a claim for damages.

The freight carrier is responsible for loss or damage.

Report, by telephone, any shortages or damaged deliveries to Select Appliance within two days of your receipt of the shipment. Select Appliance cannot be held responsible for damaged merchandise that is signed for as free and clear of damage.

Contact Information

If you need to telephone Select Appliance, their toll-free number is (888) 235-0431; their help desk hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. You can email inquiries to them through a special page on their web site. (You might want to record those data in writing, so you don't have to come back to this page to find them if you need them.)

Induction Cooking Equipment Available Through This Site

The following induction-cooking equipment (here listed alphabetically by maker) is available for purchase direct through this site. We ask that if you have not already read our explanation of why we hope that you will choose to make your purchases here you please take a look at it now.

Note! We are always expanding our offering of equipment at retail: in particular, the list of products we offer in the U.K. will be expanding greatly in the future. Right now, we believe we have virtually all residential equipment available at retail in North America at the best internet prices to be found, and we also have a good selection of the available commercial-grade equipment (which selection will be growing). If you're looking for a particular product and it isn't on our lists, please email us with an inquiry.

Listed below, alphabetically by maker, is what we already offer. As a general guide, units described as "hob" are available in the U.K., while those described as "cooktop" (or, for countertops, "unit") have North American availability.

Please further note that "North American" always includes the U.S., but may or may not include Canada, depending on the supplier we use (in particular, Sears Canada does not have an affiliate program). But units only available for delivery in the U.S. can still easily be shipped to Canada through any of several third-party services dedicated to facilitating just such trans-border shipping. We frankly don't know enough about such services--other than that they exist--to recommend any, but information is available on line.
