About Lodge "ProLogic": It's scarcely any wonder that the respected Cook's Illustrated list of absolute essentials of kitchen cookware included a 12-inch cast-iron skillet: the number and variety of dishes that a cast-iron pan is suited for encompass a fair fraction of cooking. Indeed, many cooks (including us) couldn't get along without more than one, of varying sizes; many cooks have a whole spectrum of cast-iron cookware. Lodge, the foremost maker of cast-iron cookware for over a century now (and, as countless customer reviews on various online bulletin boards show, immensely popular with cooks of all skill levels) offers "the cookware that won the West"--basic, simple, solid, cast iron that has been the delight of cooks for lifetimes. But in their "Logic", "ProLogic", and "Signature" lines they have even saved you much of the effort (modest as it is) of initial seasoning of your cookware. While you'll likely want to augment the factory application (and will surely keep it up as with any cast-iron cookware), you can begin using it for some things right out of the box. The distinction between the "Logic" Line and this, the "ProLogic" line, is simply the exact shape of the various items of cookware. These may appeal to those who like a lighter, more contemporary look to the old classic materials. That's all there is to it. This is cookware is for the ages: take even modest care of it and it will pass down to your great-grand-children--giving you, them, and everyone in between some wonderful cooking experiences. Some shopping notes:

For lids, "self-basting" refers to the Lodge feature of specially designed "spike" points on the interior of the lid; those accumulate boiled-off liquids from the cooking food and drip them back down onto that food, hence the term "self-basting".
