U.K.: Available Build-In Units
(While we label the page "U.K.", presumably most or all units discussed here are also available in the Republic of Ireland.)
We include on this page data tables which show the critical data for each unit, and which are sorted (by hand, not automatically) by the crucial cost-per-kilowatt figure. Each listed unit's model number is for now a click-on link to the maker's page for that unit; in time, we will substitute the same sorts of full-data standardized information boxes we currently have for North American units, plus in many cases direct buy opportunities at--as always--the lowest prices on the internet. But for now, at least we have a list (complete, we hope) and links to fuller data. This page presents information only on so-called "residential" units, which are called that to distinguish them from "commercial" units--which latter are made for use in restaurants, catering, and suchlike high-stress environments. While residential equipment would be a poor choice for a commercial environment, the reverse is not necessarily true: indeed, the only barrier to commercial induction equipment in the home kitchen is price, and the differential is often not so large as you might think. (Gas commercial equipment is usually almost impossible in a home kitchen, owing to the tremendous amounts of waste heat given off, plus the grotesque weight of such commercial units; but this is induction--we're out of the stone age now.) In time to come, we will also have an all-U.K. commercial-equipment list, but we can onlyy do so much at a time--please bear with us. Note also that the tabulations on this page are further limited to build-in units--that is, those set into a cutout in a countertop as permanent installations. There are, of course, also numerous freestanding countertop-type units, and we have a separate page tabulating all those freestanding countertop induction units--again, limited to those for residential use, with the same hint that you might also look at corresponding commercial equipment. (That page is already a finished project, with info boxes and, in most cases, buy opportunities.) This page presents data on units. To make best use of that data in your own decision-making, we recommend that you first review our page here on the principles of selecting a unit. Finally, remember that we continue to develop this and all our pages, so do check back in periodically. All data presented (except cost-related ones) are taken from either the maker's web site or, if we have it, the maker's manual for the item. From this data page, clicking on any particular model number listed here will cause the maker's data page for that unit to open in a new browser window. Those pages are often not terribly informative--too many makers don't seem to understand what consumers want and need to know, or else assume that the retailer in his brick-and-mortar store will do all the "selling" that is needed; the internet seems to many of those makers like a fairy tale from another world. — Unless particularly noted, all cost figures are in U.K. pounds. —
We go to some lengths to try to assure that the data we present is accurate and complete, but--as common sense should suggest--we cannot warrant these data, which are presented for solely your convenience and guidance; the makers of the subject equipment are the sole and final source of definite data, and the selected vendors of actual prices. So nyah, nyah, all you lawyers.
